‘I think everybody’s excited’: Pittsburgh-area suppliers prepare to distribute COVID-19 vaccines for kids under 12

Local vaccine suppliers have begun gearing up for the impending approval of vaccinations for children between the ages of 5 and 11 by pre-scheduling appointments and planning immunization clinics. Anticipating the approval of the vaccine by the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Pathways Wellness Program has already begun scheduling vaccine clinics at schools. The CDC advisory panel will meet on Nov. 2 and 3 to approve the vaccine, and once the FDA also signs off on it, doses of the vaccine will start to go out to providers across the country within hours. Allegheny Health Network is in the midst of planning two mass vaccination events — with the possibility of a third — so that once they receive the vials, immunizations can begin.
